BLACK DOG RIDE 2016

February 11, 2016

On Sunday 20th March, thousands of Black Dog Riders will hit the highways to raise vital funds for Lifeline, and raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention.

The Black Dog Ride 1 Dayer is a nationwide event. Last year saw nearly 6,500 riders participate, raising over $200,000 for Lifeline’s crisis support services.

In 2016, motorcycle enthusiasts will depart from 34 locations across Australia. The Sale leg will commence at 8.00am for Check-In and breakfast at the Clocktower at the Sale Mall prior to a 10.00am ride departure. Riders will re-group for a fuel stop in Heyfield and will finish in Maffra at the ‘Gippsland Vehicle Collection’ shed for a BBQ lunch at 2.00pm.

The Black Dog Ride 1 Dayer is a great way for the community to get involved in a conversation around suicide and depression. By talking about these issues together, we can make a difference.

Suicide continues to be a significant issue in this country, with an average of seven deaths by suicide each day in Australia.

Suicide is our country’s leading cause of death for people aged between 15 and 44. While the majority of Lifeline help seekers are women, 75 per cent of all suicides in Australia are by men. The Black Dog Ride 1 Dayer event has an important role in building awareness of this issue and encouraging Australians, particularly men, to seek help early.

With over 6,500 people expected to participate in 2016, riders are encouraged to register early.
